On Monday, Dec. 4, head down to Hyde Park where Alex Kotlowitz will read from "Never a City So Real: A Walk in Chicago," his most recent work. The reading starts at 7:30 p.m., and will be held at 57th Street Books, located at 1301 E. 57th Street. There's a suggested donation of $10. On Tuesday, Dec. 5, head into Edgewater for an Early to Bed Salon entitled "Just Can't Get Enough," a discussion about polyamory. Add in your thoughts, or listen to others discuss while enjoying free wine and cheese. The salon starts at 7 p.m. with wine and cheese, and the discussion will start at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone over 18. Early to Bed is located at 5232 N. Sheridan, and call 773-271-1219 for more information.
Monthly reading series RUI: Reading Under the Influence will happen on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Sheffield's, located at 3258 N. Sheffield Ave. RUI, which combines alcohol with reading for a lot of fun. On Wednesday, guest Paul Barile of n.u.f.a.n. ensemble will join RUI regulars. RUI is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and admission is $3. This event is 21 and over. Thursday, Dec. 7, head down to the Chicago Architecture Foundation for a lecture by Carl Smith of Northwestern University on Chicago architect Daniel Burnham's work in urban planning, entitled Daniel Burnham & the Remaking of the American City, based on his book of the same name. This event starts at 12:15 p.m., and will be held at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, located at 224 S. Michigan Ave. Cal 312-922-3432 for more information.
On Friday, Dec. 8, the Tall Grass Writer's Guild will host a holiday themed reading at the Book Cellar, located at 4726 N. Lincoln Ave. The event is free and starts at 7 p.m. Call 773-293-2665 for more information.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, El Vez, a Mexican Elvis impersonator will perform his Merry MeX-mas holiday show at Subterranean, located at 2011 W.
